Dakota Fence, a growing specialty contractor primarily involved in residential/commercial fence, highway, and commercial playground construction as well as traffic control services, is seeking a full-time project manager for its Fargo, North Dakota office. The position requires a leader with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in a fast paced ever-changing environment; remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism, sense of urgency and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as computer, are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The project manager will provide overall leadership direction to a portfolio of projects and team members; including the management of project quality, timeliness, safety, as well as mentoring/training employees. Develop and enhance customer relationships by providing excellent service.

The principal job duties of this position are to:

  •   Manage projects and crews to maximize productivity and profitability.

  •   Develop and maintain appropriate construction staffing, materials and equipment resources.

  •   Handle billings, inventory and contract management.

  •   Attend preconstruction meetings.

  •   Routine site visits to monitor progress and develop corrective actions if necessary.

  •   Handle warranty calls and follow-up work associated with projects.

  •   Approve time cards of direct reports.

  •   Provide ongoing feedback of work performance to direct reports.

  •   Work with field crews to develop and share best practices that increase productivity and overall

    cost effectiveness.


  •   Construction or a related industry knowledge and experience in leading construction crews is preferred.

  •   Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills.

  •   Well organized, attention to detail, multi-task and work with a high sense of urgency.

  •   Strong technology / computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.

  •   Computer experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is preferred.

  •   Experience with bids, estimates and plan reading is preferred.

  •   Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or related field from an

    accredited college is desired. Minimum five (5) years of directly related experience is preferred.
